What Is Your Purpose

The Book of 1 Peter: Chapter 4

Have you ever looked at some people that you know and been amazed at the gifts that they have been given by God? Maybe they were an amazing speaker, artist, or engineer? When we look at those people with extraordinary gifts and talents it is hard not to wonder what in the world our own gifts are or if we know them, how we can possibly compete with the others who have similar gifts, isn’t it? What I love about this chapter that you just read (hopefully) is that it makes it clear that we don’t have to compete and that we each have been given gifts. Make no mistake you have been given a gift from God. I may not know what your particular gift is, but I have no doubt that you have several. You were given that gift or gifts because God has a purpose for you to put it to use to reach people for Jesus. There is no getting around that, it’s just the way that it is.          So here is what I want you to do. Take a moment after reading this devotion and think about yourself. What is the gift that God has given you? You can feel free to share that gift with me or not. Once you have taken some time to think about it. I want you to write down what that gift is. Put it on a post-it note somewhere where you are going to see it every single day. God did not give you that gift by accident. Once you know what it is, actively look for ways to use it to reach the people that you come into contact with every day for Jesus. God has a purpose for you.  -- Pastor Alex Gebert Crossroads Wesleyan Church
