A verse that really sticks out to me when I think about what our mission is is Mark 16:15; "And he said to them, "Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation." As a church we need a very specific mission to rally around together as a family. Our community is that mission. Whether you live in Wauneta, Imperial, Lamar, or somewhere else, our community is our mission. Now, what about our community? Of course we want it to be a better place to live, but there has to be a bigger purpose than that. Our purpose, our mission as Christians is to lead this community into a relationship with Jesus. So what people are we going to try to lead to Jesus? Well, to answer this question I looked at some numbers that were provided by the city of Imperial and the census bureau. only about 1/3rd of Imperial residents attends any church whatsoever. And of all the people that live in what is classified as Imperial 1,271 people classify themselves as not having any faith at all. These are staggering numbers. Church, we have an opportunity to be the light of Christ in our community. This is our mission, this is the purpose that we rally behind. These people that are our friends, family, coworkers, and people that you see every single day.
So here is what we're going to do about it. I have a blank space on a wall in my office. Take some time to pray today and ask God to reveal to you one particular person that he is leading you to reach for him. Whether it is to encourage them to engage in our family of faith, or to lead that person to salvation. When God reveals that person to you, do me a favor and let me know. Every single time one of you tells me a person that God reveals to you I will put their name on my wall where I will see it every single day. I will pray over that person every single day with you. This is how we reach this community and live on mission, together as the Church. Feel free to text me the name of the person, respond to this email, or call. I am praying for you, and I am praying that God rallys us to our mission that he has given us as his people. Our community.
