The Book of Amos: Chapter 9
Chapter 9 is full of some disturbing imagery. It has Israel being destroyed, people being killed, and ultimately the judgement that Israel has brought upon themselves is laid out in its detail. Overall, it is not a pleasant time for the Israelites. However, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. God isn’t going to totally destroy Israel. At the end of the chapter God says that he will restore Israel to their own land, that they will rebuild, and that they will never again be uprooted. All that sounds great, but let’s take a bird’s eye view of the situation. There are 2 promises made to the Israelites from God in this chapter. 1. Israel is going to have a REALLY bad time. 2. God will restore Israel. To the Israelites who are going to go through the bad time and most likely be killed, this isn’t too much of a comfort. But there is light in the darkness.
How many times have you been in a similar situation? Surely, you have been in a situation in life where you were in a hopeless situation and you had no idea what to do, but there was light. The light and promises of God reminded you to keep taking step after step, to keep moving forward because God promises life, love, and joy. No matter how dark the world gets or how hopeless your situation seems, there is always light. Walk toward that light, walk toward the love of God and trust in him. It is going to be okay.
