The Book of Revelation: Chapter 9
Now, if I'm totally honest this isn't my favorite chapter in the Bible. I doubt it is anyone's favorite chapter in the Bible. It's filled with rather ghastly and disturbing imagery of demonic forces coming out and tormenting humanity. Not a great time. However, something did catch my eye. If you will, go back and read verse 13. "The sixth angel sounded his trumpet, and I heard a voice coming from the four horns of the golden altar that is before God". A voice comes from the altar. If you remember the earlier chapters of Revelation you'll remember that the voices that rise with the incense before God that are at the altar are the prayers of his people. Now, this is where I was struck with something that utterly confounds me all the time. God listens to our prayers.
Even in the end-times God listens to our prayers! Whatever it is that you are praying for and talking to God about, they aren't bouncing off of the ceiling never to be heard by a God that is too busy taking phone calls to pay attention to you. He listens to your prayers. There are a ton of times in Scripture when God is influenced by the prayers of his people. You are his people. Know that God listens to you. The God of all creation, the creator of the entire universe in all its glory listens to you because he loves you.
