The Book of Revelation: Chapter 4
I’ll be totally honest with you going into this chapter of Revelation. There are many people that are much smarter than I who interpret different parts of this chapter in all sorts of ways. Because of that it can become rather confusing. However, we’re not going to be getting into all the confusing parts today (if you want to let me know and I’d be happy to have coffee with you and talk about it). What we’re going to talk about is the throne of God. Everything in this chapter, in fact everything else in the book of Revelation centers around the occupied throne of God. During everything that John describes in both this chapter and the rest of the book he has his focus on the throne of Jesus. And y’all, there is an awful lot that goes on in this chapter alone, not to mention all the other chapters. Despite everything else that goes on, John keeps his focus on Jesus.
There is a lot going on in our life isn’t there? This year alone is absolutely insane. There is a whole lot that we can get distracted by or that we can allow to shift our focus. It sure would be easy to turn our focus away from Jesus and to instead focus on the election, politics in general, the pandemic, or even personal issues. Yet, despite all of the things that call for our attention, we cannot allow ourselves to shift our focus away from the throne. Focus on Jesus. Whatever else is going on in your life, focus on Jesus. Keep your eyes on the throne and it will be okay.
