“…offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God – this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is– his good, pleasing and perfect will” (NIV).
What great advice. A new year is like a chapter waiting to be written. Life may be looking up for you, or you may be looking back on last years chapter wishing or wondering what you could have done differently. Maybe there’s a situation you could of handled or responded to better or maybe life just hasn’t been good to you and you’re looking for hope. Jesus warned His disciples that “…In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33.
Whatever it is you’re facing, good or bad, Jesus understands and knows the trials and circumstances we may face. What a better way to live life than with God leading us. If we make it our goal and ambition to live completely for God, submerging ourselves into His truth so that His grace may flow through us, imagine what you can be looking back on when 2018 is around the corner. If we allow God to “…renew our minds…” so we may understand better what His will for our life is, that’s a chapter well written.
I challenge you this year to dig deeper into God’s word and be saturated more in His presence in prayer. Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight” (NIV). Renewing our minds is obeying God when He asks something of us even when we don’t understand, when it doesn’t make sense to us at that time. Trust in God for He knows what’s best. The more we read God’s living Word, the more it becomes alive to us. The more we pray and listen to God, the more we’ll be able to hear and understand His will for our lives.
This isn’t just to better your life, but it affects everyone else around you! Do you want 2017 to be better? James 5:16 “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective” (NIV). Don’t allow disappointments and sins in this life keep you from God’s everlasting promises in your life. This is a new chapter… are you willing to let God write it for you?
Blessings to you in 2017!
